A new member of the Stepping’ Stones Family

We have a new member of the Steppin’ Stones family. Today Nigel was treated to a new Sandpiper Accordeon which we have decided to name Sally.

I must say the instrument has a gorgeous rich sound and is quite a good looking machine.

We have a couple if public gigs coming up so check out the live dates for that.

First gig of 2012

We had our first gig of the year on Saturday 7 January 2012 and was a tremendous success. It was our second visit to the Widower’s Club and was as brilliant as the first.

The ladies were up for a spot of dancing so we got them barn dancing and then they boogied the night away to some 50s, 60s and 70s contemporary songs.

The evening wasn’t without its troubles. We had a string blow out just before we did our sound check and I took this sneaky photo of Knokka re-stringing Penny (the tenor guitar).

It was a great start to 2012 and we hope to have more like it!

2011 comes to a close

It has been one hectic year yet again and have successfully had as many gigs as last year. We have had some great gigs this year which have been very memorable and will stay with us forever more.

Currently as it stands 2012 is looking to be another busy year with hopefully (and finally) the release of the third album, which we are very excited about.

THank you to everyone who has supported us and asked us to play at their event. We couldn’t do it without you.

We hope you have all had a fab Christmas and will all look forward to a positive and prosperous New Year!!

St Hughes Catholic Church

Yesterday evening we entertained historians and archeologists at St Hughes Catholic Church in Lincoln.

We were supported and joined by Tom Lane and Anne.

It was a very enjoyable evening and we got some great feedback from people.

Wow! I didn’t realise how long it has been since the last post was made. Since the last post we performed at the Sleaford Historic Car and Motorcycle Show and have been gigging at various other venues around Lincolnshire.

Firstly I would like to say welcome back to our Dates page. We had a few issues with it displaying the events but I am pleased to say it is back.

It has been slow progress on the album front but now the cold weather has set in we have more reason to be sat inside in the warmth getting it finished instead of being in the garden getting other jobs done.

We now have a few weeks free of bookings before the very busy December ahead. We will soon be learning and rehearsing the Christmas Carols ready for the upcoming bookings and the run up to Christmas.

We have uploaded 2 photos to the website from the last gig at the Nettleham Ladies Club which we went down extremely well and had some very nice comments from the Ladies on our way out.

New songs, new band member and more recording……..

We have been busy scrawling new songs to add to the new album. One is the title track for the new album and is all about our love for music and how after many years of singing and playing musical instruments the love for it still burns.

Also we have a new band member in the guises of a new guitar. Nigel has bought a Gibson which we are calling ‘Guy’ and he seems to be fitting in with the rest of the band extremely well.

We have found some time to continue work on our third album. We have now got a draft front cover and a number of tracks recorded, there are still more to record but we seem to be progressing steadily. We would like to have the album finished before the end of this year as it has been a few years since the last was released.

PS – a quick reminder that we wil be playing at the Sleaford Historic Car and Motorcycle Show on September 3. Entry is free and there is plenty to see and look at.

Its been a while

It has been a while since we last posted anything. To be honest we have had a fairly quiet time this last month or so which has been nice to get some other jobs done.

We will be at the Sleaford Historic Car and Motorcycle show on 3 September and for those of you have been before please note that the venue has changed due to building work at St George’s Academy.

The show is free to the public to look around and always has a great array of vehicles and stalls to look around.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Folk Music at the Mill

As I am sure you are aware that we were entertaining “Folk” at Cogglesford Mill this evening from 7pm till 10pm. The evening started off well with a good number of people floating in but then the heavens opened and the rain just kept on coming. Sadly this meant that numbers dropped, however we are VERY grateful to the people that did stay until the end sheltered by their umbrellas, we thank you and salute you.

If they have the same event next year lets home the weather is better for them.

Working Mills and Egg Throwing

This coming weekend we have another busy weekend.

On Friday 24th June we are performing at Cogglesford Mill with BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Tom Lane and Anne Irving.

The Folk Music on the Lawn event offers an opportunity to eat and drink in a picturesque setting, with musical accompaniment and the added attraction of a trip to the adjacent watermill.

The event runs from 7pm to 10pm with free admission. There is a licensed bar and food available to buy at the restaurant while at the mill there will be milling demonstrations taking place.

On Sunday 26th June we shall be at the Swaton Vintage Day the home of the World Egg Throwing Championships.

The Annual show run by locals to raise money for Local, National and International good causes. Will feature over 400 Vintage & Classic Cars, Tractors, Motorbikes, Commercial Vehicles, Stationary Engines and speciality machines.

There will be a parade of Vehicles, Bar (Swaton REAL Ale), Hog Roast and other Refreshments, Craft Tent, Trade Stands & Exhibitions, Children’s Games & Rides and so much more.

We look forward to seeing you at either or both events!

A busy weekend for us

This weekend was a busy one for us, Friday evening we entertained people in Donington Church Hall near Spalding. We were fed and watered and extremely well looked after by the people helping to organise the event. As the evening went on we even had some of them doing a barn dance and they were twisting and jiving to ‘Lets Twist Again’. During the evening we were asked by 8 year old Helen if we could play ‘Cockles and Muscles’ because she had been practicing singing the song. We happily obliged and got her up to sing with us through the microphone.

Saturday we returned to the Drill Hall in Lincoln to perform in the Cafe, it was enjoyable and a pleasure as usual with members of the public saying kind words about our music. We look forward to returning to the Drill Hall again soon.
